Shark Bay scenic quad bike tour

After exploring Shark Bay from the sea we decided we ought to see it from the hills and cliffs too. So we set off on a quad bike tour of the whole area with a guide. It really didn't disappoint; the views were amazing, and it proved to be really good fun too!
And... we finally saw some sharks! :-) They were reef sharks which meant they weren't dangerous at all so we even got to go in the water with them.

wonderful wallpaper week 18 (2013 edition)

This week's wallpaper just had to be orange as tomorrow we will be celebrating 'Koninginnedag' here in the Netherlands. It's going to be a really special one as Queen Beatrix will be passing the crown to her son, Willem-Alexander.

On this special day everyone will be wearing orange, the colour of the royal family.

P.S. I just realised I haven't posted anything since last Monday... weeks go by waaay to fast!! :-)

An afternoon on the Shotover

Not only did we get to spend a relaxing afternoon on the water, we also marveled at wild dolphins, sharks, sea snakes and turtles. Such a special and beautiful cruise!

Happy birthday me!

It's my birthday today! :-)

I received the sweetest birthday message early this morning from my brother Mathieu who spelled my name with photos of my beloved little nephew... isn't it just adorable?

I'm a very lucky girl: I received dozens of messages and phone calls from all over the world. And I spent the day with Mart and with my mum who is visiting from Switzerland; my first birthday as a married woman was a truly wonderful one!

Monkey Mia's dolphins and pelikans

Every morning at Monkey Mia a few female dolphins are fed one or two fish, to the great delight of dozens of excited spectators. We were super lucky to see two little babies who were less than a month old. They were so cute, buzzing around their mums!

Eagle Bluff

The four kilometers of dirt road to access Eagle Bluff are well worth it; the view from there is really spectacular! We were there when the sun was starting to set and the shiny sea meant we didn't get to see any aquatic wildlife (there are apparently often sharks swimming around at the bottom of the cliff) but we saw a family of emus on the way and very much enjoyed the dramatic views of the sun slowly setting into the ocean.

Shell beach

Aaah, Shell beach... such a stunning place!
And so special: the whole beach is made of thousands and thousands of tiny white shells.
It was pretty much deserted when we were there; it was like our own little corner of paradise.

Stromatolites

Before I show you photos of our recent trip to Sydney, I'd like to finish off our honeymoon... it's been so busy during the weeks leading to our holiday that I didn't get the chance to finish it all.
I know this all happened a few months ago already, but I really enjoy looking back at all these photos so... bear with me!
:-)

Just like for the tree top walk, I had read about the stromatolites in Bill Bryson's book. I was quite intrigued to go and see the most ancient living creatures on earth and... I have to admit I was pretty nonplussed once we got there. :-) They are not exactly hugely entertaining in 'normal' conditions, but let me tell you, with wind and waves these circular rocky formations are pretty much as boring as it gets (mostly because you can hardly see them). We did manage to take a peak at one or two in between waves, but it wasn't exactly earth shattering. Still, the idea that these things were there before dinosaurs is pretty cool. And the weather was good. :-)

That evening we reached Monkey Mia, where we witnessed the first of several magnificent sunsets from our cosy little place on the resort.

Stay tuned for more photos of this beautiful area in the next few days!

I'm back!

Hello!
It's been very quiet over here lately... sorry!

I wasn't at the computer much in the past few weeks; we were back in Australia (in Sydney this time) for a very special wedding. It was so great to spend quality time with all our friends and family there, and the weather was truly wonderful... we are so lucky to be able to travel so often!

There will be plenty more pictures soon but for now I'll go and try to kick some butts in the jet-lag department; I have to go back to work tomorrow morning! :-)
